<image:title>Editing & Workshops - Writing for Healing and Resilience</image:title>
<image:caption>Wednesdays, April 3 - May 8, 2:30 - 4 pm. Red Willow Center. The act of writing can be cathartic, especially since we often store the pain of unpleasant memories in our bodies and in our minds. Writing can help us see a way forward towards healing and resilience. In this class, we’ll read examples of published writing, discuss ways to evoke memory and sensory detail on the page, and explore writing prompts. Each class will guide participants to focus on one aspect of their memories, including writing about place, music, family, friendship, and the body. Participants will be encouraged to share their work with the group, but this will not be required.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Online six-week class, Wednesdays from January 19 to February 23, 2021, 3:30pm to 4:30pm MST Class Description: Writing has been proven to improve both mental and physical health by boosting our immune systems. Writing about what’s on our minds can also help us let go of thoughts or feelings we may be holding onto. In this class, we will move beyond everyday routines and the monotonous rhythm of the pandemic and respond to prompts chosen according to participants’ needs and curiosities. This class is for everyone—people who have never tried journaling, serious writers, and everyone in between.</image:caption>

<image:title>Editing & Workshops - Fishtrap: Writing and the West Reimagining Environmental Writing</image:title>
<image:caption>Tuesdays in November 2021 – 2,9,16,23 6:00pm pacific time – one hour workshop sessions Nature writing and environmental writing are often narrowly conceived as fly fishing or backpacking celebrations, or journalistic advocacy about an aspect of the climate crisis. In this generative workshop, however, we will flip traditional understandings of environmental writing by reading work that pushes the traditional boundaries of the genre. Readings, which will be largely completed outside of workshop sessions, will serve to help us redefine and reimagine environmental writing. With these new definitions in mind, we will then dive into our own writing. The workshop will take place for one hour each week for four consecutive weeks. Each session will include discussion of readings and ideas, brainstorming, and a generative prompt and writing time. By the end of the month, participants will have an essay drafted as well as resources for revision and publication.</image:caption>
